SalMar plans second giant platform

THE Norwegian fish farmer SalMar is planning to build another huge offshore platform possibly twice the size of Ocean Farm 1, which was brought in from China last summer.
The move follows SalMar’s acquisition of 51 per cent of the shares in the Stavanger based company MariCulture, which is involved in the development of fish farms and fish farming equipment.
The two businesses have signed a partnership to develop a new offshore aquaculture concept called Smart Fish Farm that can operate in the open sea.

$150m deepwater aquaculture farm backed by Chinese gov’t

China’s ministry of agriculture (MoA) announced a ‘national mariculture demonstration zone construction plan (2017-2025)’, which targets 178 pilot mariculture farms to be built in China by 2025.
China has also set a target of increasing its aquaculture production by 15.4 million metric tons by 2025. According to Sondre Vevstad, an executive with lender Danske Bank, the 30% increase China has planned will take total output to 62.3m metric tons, from 47.6m in 2015, with mariculture expected to play an important role in supporting this growth.
Schreven said the project signals modernization of China’s aquaculture sector, from small-scale farms to large-scale operations.

Southeast Asia’s first dedicated Seafood Expo

Thailand, one of the world’s largest seafood markets, launches the 1st ASEAN Seafood Expo & Conference to be held from 20-21 November 2017 in Bangkok.

The dedicated seafood exhibition and conference will be staged at the Queen Sirikit National Convention (QSNCC) in Bangkok by Korea’s leading international organiser, COEX, the Korean Ministry of Oceans & Fisheries and COEX Thailand Associate: Asian Exhibition Services (AES) Ltd. The event is supported by the Thai Overseas Fisheries Association and TCEB, under the Office of the Prime Minister.

Busan International Seafood & Fisheries EXPO (BISFE 2017)

The 15th ‘Busan International Seafood & Fisheries Expo 2017,’ which serves as the largest platform for the fishery trade in Asia, is scheduled to be held at Hall 1, 2 and 3A of BEXCO Exhibition Center Ⅰ for three days from Wednesday, November 8 to Friday, November 10. It features about 900 booths by about 400 companies from about 30 countries.
